Mill Standard Inspection Packet (MSIP) Standard

Objective

1) Mill creates MSIP for Vendor SIP packet

2) Vendor must request MSIP from mill

General Information

Complete all available information.

Inspection Information

? Fabric Inspection ? Upon completing the 4-point inspection, please circle the appropriate score for the fabric. If no inspection was conducted, please circle none.

? Target Department ? Target Corporation department purchasing garments (if information is available)

? Product ID ? PID and/or DPCI (if information is available)

? Description of product ? Construction, fiber type, etc

? Country of Origin (should be above mill)

? Order information ? PO, DPCI, Quantity

? Summary/Comments ? Professional, constructive comments and suggestions from the Fabric Specialist

? What is the inspection method? ? A description of the 4-Point system is given in Inspection Data. If the company both inspects the fabric and corrects defects at the point of inspection, please circle Inspect and Mend. If the company inspects the fabric and tracks defects using any other method, please circle other.

? Does the mill have a procedure to provide corrective feedback based on inspection results? Please answer yes if the mill shares the fabric quality data with the weaver, dyer, and finisher.

Inspection Data ? If the facility uses a 4-Point Inspection System

Randomly, pull one roll for each color within the program. If six colors are represented, pull one roll for each color. If less than six colors are within the program, pull multiple rolls of each color until six rolls are inspected. If more than six colors represent the program, pull one roll for each color and inspect.

Allow the mill fabric inspection team to load the roll on an inspection table. Observe the handling of the fabric roll and setup ease. For example — Does the inspector/technician load the rolls easily as if they do this often, or does it seem as if this is never done? Allow the inspector/technician to inspect the roll with you at their side. Speed of roll should not exceed 15 yds/min. Record all defects observed on audit/inspection form.

? Lot Number ? Specified by mill on each roll

? Ticket yards ? Specified on batch ticket with each roll (lot id ticket)

? Actual yards ? Identified during audit of each roll

? Audit points ? Sum of all points

? Mill points ? Some mills will have the point count on a batch ticket. If the audit is completed with an inspection technician, some mill technicians will conclude with their own inspection results at the same time as the TCPS audit.

? Ticket width ? Identified on the batch ticket

? Actual width ? Start, end, and average width of each roll

Weaving, Yarn, and Dyeing/Finishing Defect Table

? Full Width (4-point) ? If the defect covers the full width of the fabric, assign a 4-Point defect

? Continuous (4-point for each linear yarn) ? If the defect is linear down the length of the fabric i.e. an oil line or a warp defect, assign 4-Points for each linear yard. For example, an oil streak that ran for 3 linear yards would be assigned 3, 4-Point defects.

? 4 Point (Over 9?) but less than the full width of the fabric.

? 3 Point (6?-9?)

? 2 Point (3?-6?)

? 1 Point (0-3?)

? No linear yard shall be assigned more than 4 points.

? No roll should have 4 point defect or splice at the beginning or end 1 meter of a roll.

? All holes regardless of size shall be assigned 4 points.

? Any warp or filling defects occurring repeatedly (scattered or continuous) through an entire roll is quantified by second quality, independent of total points.

? Noticeable side-center-side shading is quantified by second quality, independent of total points.

? Noticeable end-to-end shading is quantified by second quality, independent of total points.

? Defects within one inch of each selvage should be disregarded.

? Unless otherwise directed by merchant or vendor, fabric is to be examined for defects only on the right side (face).

? Any roll having noticeable slack or tight selvedges (one or both) or ripples, or puckering in the body of the fabric is quantified as second quality, independent of total points.

? Yards of Majors ? the minimum number of yards for a defect is 1. Total the number of yards that were affected by defects in this column. For example: a fabric has 3, 4-Point missed picks and 2 dye streaks that cover a total of 10 yards. 2 would be entered in the Yards of Majors in the Missed Pick Row and 10 would be entered in the Dye Streak Row under Yards of majors. Anything under 4-Points is not included in this column.

? Total Yards ? The total number of yards in the roll affected by defects (Column Total)

? Total Defects ? Total number of each type of defect observed. (Column Total)

? Total Points ? Multiply the number of defects with the point associated with the defect for each row and column.

o Below is the equation used to determine the Total Points earned:

o Below is a chart explaining the Fabric Inspection Scoring:

Less than 25 Points per 1002 yards

First Quality = Acceptable

More Than 25 Pts/1002 yards

Second Quality = Not Acceptable

Accuracy of Flagging

? Flagged properly ? A count of each properly flagged defect ? A defect is properly flagged if the flag is easily seen and close to the defect without hiding the defect.

? Flagged improperly ? A count of each improperly flagged defect ? A defect is flagged improperly if the flag is not easily seen or hides the defect.

? Not flagged ? A count of each defect that the fabric specialist regards as a defect, but the mill inspector did not flag.

? Flag not justified ? A count of flags that the fabric specialist did not regard as a defect, but the fabric inspector flagged

Testing Reports (Column one)

Request Fabric Physicals and Shade testing reports from the mill and copy to the Testing Reports section. Please copy all relevant data into the blanks and make copies of all relevant test data that cannot be included on the form. Attach all relevant data and include it with the MSIP Form.

Fabric Swatch and Color Measurements

Please take two adjacent (no more than one yard apart) samples from each roll for color measurement. Minimum size is 4 inches by 4 inches. Maximum size is 12 inches by 12 inches. Please attach one swatch to the last page of the form in the indicated area.

If available, please instruct the laboratory to conduct a color reading using their standard spectrophotometric method. Please record the CMC ?E, CIE ?h*, CIE ?C*, CIE ?L*, CIE ?a*, and CIE ?b*. Please list the color standard being used (i.e. Archroma color or First Approved Lab Dip).

Quality Control Contact

Please provide the relevant contact information for the mill quality manager and vendor representative.
